Go Fly a Kite

Let’s start the month of May outside with the quintessential spring activity and headMay Fly kite over to Wheaton to fly your favorite kite. From 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, the people of Wheaton are going to be trying to break their record of 843 kites in the air simultaneously. Bring your own, or purchase a kite there. Graf Park at 1701 Manchester Road opens at 10:00 am and the grand launch is at 11:00 am with kite demonstrations at noon and highest flying kite contest and Kids’ Mad Dash at 1:00 pm. Finally at 1:30 pm the  Most Unique Kite Contest, as well as, the Candy Drop close out the fun. This one is fun for all ages.

The 19th Annual Art in the Park

May art-in-the-park-2014-10After flying your kite, head over to Wilder Park in Elmhurst for the 19th Annual Art in the Park extravaganza of fine art, craft and design. Featuring over 100 artists with ceramics, fiber, glass, jewelry, painting and photography, this show is free. Food vendors will be there and the Elmhurst Art Museum will be open and free from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm both days.

Lilactime in Lombard May lilac-bloom

The lilacs are calling us to Lombard’s Lilacia Park at 150 South Park Avenue where over 800 lilac plants and 25,000 tulips will be at their most beautiful. Take a tour, shop the art and craft fair and sample a variety of treats. Check the website for a schedule of concerts and attractions.

Taste of Glen Ellyn

It’s good eating in Glen Ellyn this weekend as four days of music, food, carnival rides May TasteLogo2015 Glenand a craft show comes to the Main Street Parking Lot, next to Giesche Shoes at 400 North Main Street. Check the website for a schedule of concerts and other activities that will be happening all weekend long. The event starts Thursday from 5:00 to 10:00 pm, Friday from 5:00 to 10:30 pm, Saturday from 12:00 to 11:00 pm, ending on Sunday when the festival is open from 12:00 to 8:00 pm.

Elmhurst Museum Day

All three Elmhurst museums will be open and free from May Museum Day 2013 0151:00 to 5:00 pm. With impressive exhibits and fun activities, people of all ages will find something of interest. Make sure you visit the new History of Elmhurst exhibit at the Elmhurst Historical Museum. A free trolly will run between the museums to make the day even more fun. Collect a stamp at all three museums and enter a drawing for great door prizes.

16th Annual Annie Ryan Run

Get ready for the first race of the running season in Elmhurst. This run, which is May annieryan_logosponsored by LW Reedy, is a family event that includes the Jessie White Tumblers, face painting, and free ice cream for all who attend. Bring the kids and walk or run. Register between 6:30 and 8:45 am at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 537 South York Street. The 5K starts at 9:00 am with an entry fee of $30 before May 16th and $35 after. The Kids’ 1 Mile Dash starts at 9:45 am for kids kindergarten to 8th grade with an entry fee of $15. The Pre-Packet Pick-up, hosted by LW Reedy, is May 13 through May 15, between 4:00 and 7:00 pm at the LW Reedy office at the corner of York Street and First Street.

97th Annual Elmhurst Memorial Day Parade 

The Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce & Industry, in cooperation with the City of Elmurst and the Veteran’s Organization of Elmhurst, will May Parade pichost the Memorial Day Parade in downtown Elmhurst. The parade steps off at 9:30 am in  Elmhurst City Centre at Third and York Street, winding its way through Elmhurst to the Elmhurst Veteran’s Memorial in Wilder Park. There will be a Military Ceremony at Wilder Park following the parade.
