Rock the House
Celebrate the end of summer in downtown Glen Rock the houseEllyn with concerts playing on Main Street between Hillside and Duane. Sample local food and drinks while enjoying the School of Rock bands starting at 7:00 pm with the featured band starting at 8:00 pm.  Admission is free.

Civil War Encampment

Take the kids to Graue Mill to experience the annual Civil War re-enactment when the members Civil warof the 10th Illinois Regiment and their families spend the weekend demonstrating what life was like in a Union military camp. With authentic uniforms, weapons and tools, this trip back to the 1860s is an excellent educational opportunity for the kids. Activities will take place from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. Graue Mill and Museum is located at 3800 York Road in Oak Brook and admission is free.CIty Centre

Rock the Block Party

Make your way uptown to Elmhurst City Centre for food, drinks and some of Chicagoland’s best live music. The festival will be open on Friday from 4:00 to 10:30 pm, and from 12:00 to 10:30 pm on Saturday night. Bands include American English, 7th Heaven, ARRA and Sixteen Candles. Admission is free. Don’t miss Elmhurst’s biggest party of the year!

Cornfest Family Fun Day

Graue Mill and Museum continues the fun with their popular annual family picnic running from 11:30 am to 4:00 pm. Roasted corn on the cob, hot dogs, hamburgers, homemade pies and taffy apples will make the day extra sweet. The kids will love the fishing tournament, games and races, and the giant woodpile will be back for kids to practice their hammering skills. Make a corn husk doll to take home. Admission is free, although you will need to purchase tickets for food, drinks and activities.

Dog Daze

Bring the kids and the dogs to Redmond Park at 735 Jefferson Street in Bensenville for a fun dayDog Daze of races and treats. There’s a 5K race and a 1 mile walk benefiting the Fetching Tails Foundation, which raises money for their adoptable dogs. All of the other activities at Dog Daze are free and do not require registration. Dogs must be leashed and you must have proof of vaccination, which will be checked at the registration table. Check the website for the schedule including a Vendor Fair, Obstacle Course, Pet Tricks and a Dog Parade/Fashion Show. Your four legged friends will never forgive you if they miss this event planned specifically for them.

Oak Brook Oktoberfest

The Oak Brook Park District is teaming up with the village to present Oktoberfest at Central Park, 1450 Forest Gate Road. Activities include a softball tournament and a weekend-long flag football tournament, live music featuring some of the most popular groups in the area, food, beer and children’s activities between 1:00 and 5:00 pm. Oktoberfest will run from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Smithsonian Museum Day at the Lizzadro Museummuseum day

Gain free admission to the Lizzadro Museum by clicking here and downloading a free Museum Day ticket. Join Sakina Bharani, a museum docent, on a guided tour of the “Legendary Diamonds” exhibit. Tour times are 11:00 and 2:00 pm. The museum is located at 220 Cottage Hill Avenue in Elmhurst.

Lakeside Pavilion Starlight Summer Series

Summer Series concertKirk Muspratt, Music Director and Conductor of the McAninch Arts Centers’ orchestra will present a free pops concert featuring some of today’s most popular songs from Broadway, movies and even some light classical.  Lakeside Pavilions is located at the College of DuPage at the intersection of Fawell and Park Boulevards in Glen Ellyn.

Summer Daze

The Warrenville Park District and the Western DuPage Chamber of Commerce presents Summer Dazetwo full days of musical entertainment, a car show,  carnival rides and lots of fun for the whole family. Located near the intersection of Butterfield and Batavia Roads in Warrenville, the fair will be open from 4:30 pm to 11:30 pm on both days.

Start Your Rockin’  Collection

Bring your kids to the Elmhurst Lapidary Museum and get them started on their verygemstones own rock collection, complete with a personalized rock carton made from an egg carton. They can also bring rocks from home for identification. The one-hour workshop costs $5 per person with museum members free, and is designed for kids from 5 to 10 years old. Reservations are required. Take the day to experience all things French and learn what special connection Cantigny has with France.  Enjoy  a French open air market by Bensidoun, Wine Tasting and French Food  at Le Jardin and music by Claudia Hommel and Patricia Spaeth, as well as, street performers, mimes and Can-Can dancers. Let the kids enjoy a special story time with Madeline and photo-ops by the 23 foot Eiffel Tower. The event is free with a $5 parking fee. Cantigny is located at 1S151 Winfield Road in Wheaton.

Festival of the Horse & Drum

The Festival of the Horse & Drum in St. Charles  features an American Indian Pow-Wow, Horsemen of FOH&E_Logo_2014_05_(no date).epsSpain, Portugal & Mexico, Tanner & Glaze along with Equestrian games, Equine abilities expo, a Cowboy Town, Steampunk Alley, a Renaissance Faire, a kids corral and a Horse-A-Palooza stage. The fun runs from 10:00 am to 10:oo pm on Saturday and from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm on Sunday. Here is a schedule of events and ticket information.

Park Palooza

park paloozaThe Elmhurst Park District will present the third annual Park Palooza at Berens Park between 4:00 and 10:00 pm. AC Rock will play at 4:30, Zydeco Voodoo at 6:00 pm and Covergirl at 8:00 pm. Check out the food trucks from BBQ Jims, Calle Wagon, Cupcakes for Courage, Kona Ice and Mangiare Italiano. The kids will love the face painting, crafts and all types of fun.
