Rock the House
Celebrate the end of summer in downtown Glen Ellyn with concerts playing on Main Street between Hillside and Duane. Sample local food and drinks while enjoying the School of Rock bands starting at 7:00 pm with the featured band starting at 8:00 pm. Admission is free.
September 5 and 6, 2015
Take the kids to Graue Mill to experience the annual Civil War re-enactment when the members of the 10th Illinois Regiment and their families spend the weekend demonstrating what life was like in a Union military camp. With authentic uniforms, weapons and tools, this trip back to the 1860s is an excellent educational opportunity for the kids. Activities will take place from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. Graue Mill and Museum is located at 3800 York Road in Oak Brook and admission is free.
September 11 and 12, 2015
Make your way uptown to Elmhurst City Centre for food, drinks and some of Chicagoland’s best live music. The festival will be open on Friday from 4:00 to 10:30 pm, and from 12:00 to 10:30 pm on Saturday night. Bands include American English, 7th Heaven, ARRA and Sixteen Candles. Admission is free. Don’t miss Elmhurst’s biggest party of the year!
Graue Mill and Museum continues the fun with their popular annual family picnic running from 11:30 am to 4:00 pm. Roasted corn on the cob, hot dogs, hamburgers, homemade pies and taffy apples will make the day extra sweet. The kids will love the fishing tournament, games and races, and the giant woodpile will be back for kids to practice their hammering skills. Make a corn husk doll to take home. Admission is free, although you will need to purchase tickets for food, drinks and activities.
Bring the kids and the dogs to Redmond Park at 735 Jefferson Street in Bensenville for a fun day of races and treats. There’s a 5K race and a 1 mile walk benefiting the Fetching Tails Foundation, which raises money for their adoptable dogs. All of the other activities at Dog Daze are free and do not require registration. Dogs must be leashed and you must have proof of vaccination, which will be checked at the registration table. Check the website for the schedule including a Vendor Fair, Obstacle Course, Pet Tricks and a Dog Parade/Fashion Show. Your four legged friends will never forgive you if they miss this event planned specifically for them.
The Oak Brook Park District is teaming up with the village to present Oktoberfest at Central Park, 1450 Forest Gate Road. Activities include a softball tournament and a weekend-long flag football tournament, live music featuring some of the most popular groups in the area, food, beer and children’s activities between 1:00 and 5:00 pm. Oktoberfest will run from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
