Here’s our view of the community for this month, from our perch at 101 York in the heart of downtown Elmhurst.

February 1 – 26
Elmhurst Artists’ Guild: Winter Member Show

Visit the Elmhurst Artists’ Guild gallery at the Elmhurst Art Museummast_home and experience recent works of the Guild’s membership, located at 150 S Cottage Hill Avenue in Elmhurst.  The first Friday of each month has free admission. On other days, admission is $8 for adults and $7 for seniors. Students and children under 18 are admitted free.

February 13
Fun Unplugged Exhibit Series: Childhood Memories
fun-unplugged-sliderVisit the DuPage County Historical Museum at 102 E Wesley Street in Wheaton and explore the delightful innocence of a time gone by with toys and games of the 19th and 20th century. Admission is free and the exhibit runs until September 25, 2016.

February 14
FREEze Day @ Brookfield Zoo

Enjoy some winter-themed activities with free admission to the annualhuskies FREEze Day at Brookfield Zoo. With dog-sledding demonstrations between 10:00 am and 2:30 pm in the West Mall, there will also be games, musher talks and other fun activities featuring mud play and creating Valentine’s Day cards for the animals. Brookfield Zoo is located at 3300 Golf Road in Brookfield. The zoo is open from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. For more information, call (708) 688-8400 or visit the zoo’s website.

Justice PervertedFebruary 15
Discussion with Author William B Crawford

True-Crime Author William B. Crawford will lead a discussion of his new book, Justice Perverted: How the Innocence Project at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism Sent an Innocent Man to Prison. Beginning at 7:00 pm in Meeting Room A at the Elmhurst Public Library, explore this story of good intentions gone wrong in the sad case of Alstory Simon. Registration is required.

February 25 – 28
Elmhurst Jazz Festival

Enjoy a wide variety of jazz artists as they perform on the beautiful Elmhurst jazz_festival_2016_bob_mitzner_big_band_gateway_v2College campus. The 49th  Annual Elmhurst College Jazz Festival features Michael Davis, Donny McCaslin, Bob Mintzer Big Band, Ryan Truesdell and the Gil Evans Project, and Scott Wendholt. February 27
Medley of Melodies

auditionsThe Elmhurst Choral Union will present a Medley of Melodies at the First United Methodist Church of Elmhurst at 7:00 pm at 232 S York. Selections will include choruses and solos from Broadway shows, operas and the American Songbook. Admission is a free-will offering.

February 27 – 28
Chicago Family Palooza Pheasant Run Resort

Spend a weekend of fun with the whole family. There will be a kid’s Chicago-Family-Palooza-Feb-28th-and-March-1st-2015-i_1166wentertainment stage, magic acts, Zip Line, Rock Climbing, kiddie train rides, a petting zoo and bouncy houses in 51,000 square feet of family fun.
